Going Back To Cali

Our loved ones have endured unimaginable losses in the LA fires. Many members of our music community have lost not only their homes but also their instruments, scores, and recording equipment. Please review this spreadsheet and contribute if you’re able. Feel free to add others to the list who may need assistance.

Fred and his New JBs have recently suffered another loss. On December 23, the incomparably funky and widely beloved guitarist Reggie Ward, who Fred shared since 1999 with the SOS Band, passed away after having been diagnosed in October with liver cancer.

Fred was able to play at his funeral earlier this month. The  band is grateful his illness and suffering were relatively short, and with former Maceo Parker guitarist Bruno Speight stepping in to fill the void, will keep on keeping on in honor of Reggie and all those who no longer are able.

The band is preparing to tour Northern California next month with Martha High and the Funky Divas. First on their 2025 roster is the four-date tour in February with the project longtime James Brown vocalist created to pay tribute to other Godfather of Soul vocalists including the late Lyn Collins and Marva Whitney.

Tickets are on sale now.
