Beautifully photographed in France

Happy crowds this weekend at Quasimodo in Berlin and Lucerna Music Bar in Prague enjoyed special nights of funk with Fred and the New JBs, smoking hot after a killer nine-date tour of France that finished up Friday at Juliobona in Lillebonne. Many thanks to Yohann of Nueva Onda Production for the outstanding bookings.

Thanks to Jean Louis Neveu for these great photos from Nice.

Merci beaucoup to to Xavier Chauvet for the shots below from Blois.

Fred is also in the news. Click here for news of a special show paying tribute to James Brown coming up in August at the Hollywood Bowl. Click here for a review of the performance with Pee Wee Ellis at the Bristol International Jazz and Blues Festival.

Funking in France, again

Fred and his New JBs are five French dates into this spring's  21-city European tour. Merci beaucoup to all the funky people who filled venues last week in Nice, Arles, Agen, Nanterre and Blois! More thanks to journalist David Cristol, who filed this report from Agen. Here's the hard-working band --plus road manager Joya and bus driver Mario -- prepared to enjoy yet another fine French meal.

Getting back to barbecue at KBQ

When his current tour ends, Fred looks forward to getting back to his favorite barbecue -- from KBQ, run by his daughters and son-in-law in the Washington, DC, metro area, where Washingtonian readers repeatedly ranked it the area's favorite. KBQ has a new location in Lanham, Maryland, that's double the old size and now licensed to sell liquor. Click here to join the new crowdfunding campaign to get the deliciousness of KBQ back in business.

At the Bristol International Jazz & Blues Fest ...

Fred's winter break ended early this year, with a Feb. 21 show at the Free Blues Club in  Szczecin, Poland, that started a weeklong run with the organ trio Generations, featuring Leonardo Corradi on the Hammond B3 and Tony Match on drums. There he chatted with the lovely Milena Milewska, who produced the interview segment you can enjoy here.  Check out photos from the Milan date here.

He's following that with UK appearances with his JB buddy Pee Wee Ellis, last weekend at Ronnie Scott's in London (read a fun and mostly-accurate review here) and this weekend at the Bristol International Jazz and Blues Festival.

It's all a warmup for the 21-date European tour with his New JBs, booked by Musikburo-Pfankuch and Nueva Onda Production.
